As early as the 1970s, the CTA wanted to pair the Dan Ryan Line with the Howard Line but had insufficient funds to build an easy connection to get in and out of the State St Subway without having to deal with Englewood and Jackson Park traffic. In 1990, this area would be where the subway tied in with the Dan Ryan line
