Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway
Chelsea Sq. with car #7042 ready for a trip back to Lynn. This was a turnback point for all cars on this line after the Mystic River bridge was condemmed in 1935. A waiting room was made out of a EMSR 4200 series car so patrons had a place to wait for connecting buses. In 1936 the Chelsea-Revere Div. of EMSR was sold to Boston Elevated Ry and all suburban runs to Lynn and Salem were converted to bus. 14-7000 class cars were sold to BERY and the rest of the northern div. 7000s were sold to Birmingham, who converted them to front-entrance, center exit, single end cars!  This car and 14  other 7000's received red marker lights in 1934 under a DPU order requiring all EM car's operating at night on state highways to be equipped with such lights when operating on the side of the road against oncoming traffic.  The 15 cars in 1934 assigned to Lowell, Lawerence, Salem, and Lynn divisions.  While 7012  was assigned to Lynn, 7012 and 18 other 7000's were shopped in Lynn at the Belt Line EM shops and then transferred to the Quincy division between May and July 1935.  They served in
Quincy from 1935-1948.  The Boston Elevated Railway purchased 15 7000's from the Eastern Mass, 10 in 1936, #'s 4400-4409 and five in 1937, 4410-4414.
