Open car at the E Dedham carhouse used during the summer on numerous trolley systems. Boston had several hundred cars, this car was from the Old Colony StRy which became part of the East Mass.St.Ry. Keeping summer and winter car sets was un-economical for the trolley companies, so open cars were mostly gone by the 1920s, replaced by semi-convertible Type 4s and 5s whose windows opened wide. One man operation also spelled doom for the opens that needed a conuctor to collect fares and a motorman to run the car.
