U-34, a former Hog Island car of 1918 World War I vintage. U-34 was former Salt Car No. U-6 and before that passenger car No. 5001. U-34 was the last of the PRT-PTC 5000-5109 series designated as Suburban K Control cars. They were identical with the MU-equipped 4000-4129 Hog Island cars except that they were not coupler-equipped and were not built for Hog Island shipyard service. U-34 perished in the 1975 Woodland carbarn fire during the early SEPTA era. Location of this photo is the 20th St. side of Southern Depot, across the street from the Quartermaster's Depot.
